Hiking, Art, & Bigfoot: Here are the Best Spring Events around Lake Rabun

As we finally say goodbye to winter and spring weather rolls in, the calendar of events in the Lake Rabun area starts to bloom. The sun is shining, the birds are singing, the lake is sparkling—it’s the perfect time to get involved with the community!

From hikes in the state parks to brand new annual events, here are a few of the local highlights happening this season. Be sure to pencil your favorites into your calendar.

Tallulah Gorge Hikes

Throughout the spring months, they’ll be hosting a variety of special hiking events over at Tallulah Gorge State Park, and they’ll be open to the public. In the next few weeks, you can look forward to a full moon suspension bridge hike and a whitewater-watching hike.

Although you’ll need to buy tickets for the hikes since space is limited, you won’t want to miss out on the experience. Be sure to bring water and a camera along!

Wine Highway Week

A glass of wine on a picnic table.Sponsored by the Winegrowers Association of Georgia, this year’s annual Wine Highway Week will kick off at the end of the month. The event is all about featuring and enjoying wines from Northeast Georgia, so attendees can get their fill of national and international award-winning local and regional wines.

The entry fee is $50 per person, and it includes access to all of the participating wineries, as well as a collectors’ glass and wine passport. In addition to the wine, many locations will also be offering food and live entertainment!

Tiger Drive-In Opening Day

A classic car at sunset.A staple in the Lake Rabun community, the Tiger Drive-In is one of the few drive-in movie theaters in the country that’s still in operation. This spring, it’ll be kicking off its 2019 season with a showing of the new superhero movie Shazam!

But it doesn’t stop at movies—the drive-in will also be opening their very own AirBnB rentals, the “Flamingle” and “Disco Daze.” Each vintage camper is themed after its name and includes two movie tickets, making it a pretty good deal for a staycation.

The First Annual Georgia Bigfoot Conference & North Georgia Comicon

A Bigfoot figurine in the forest.A brand new event in the local community calendar, the joint Bigfoot Conference and Comicon is one of the most unique events of the year. Did you know that the forests of Lake Rabun have long been home to reported Bigfoot sitings? Actually, North Carolina and Georgia are two of the hottest Bigfoot spots in the country! The conference will be bringing in famed Bigfoot trackers, research teams, and paranormal experts, as well as Comicon vendors, to talk all about the elusive figure.

Celebrate Clayton: Rabun County’s Art Festival

Live music at an arts festival.Presented by the North Georgia Arts Guild, this year marks the 20th year of operation for Celebrate Clayton. Held in Downtown Clayton with the surroundings mountains acting as a breathtaking backdrop, the festival will be full of dozens of local art exhibits, kids’ activities, food and drink, and more.
